Browsing and searching

Browse shows one shelf at a time, in the order the albums actually stand — crate digging on a screen. Step through the shelves with Previous shelf and Next shelf, or jump to one with the list of shelves. The albums are grouped by cluster and era band, so you see where one section ends and the next begins.

Every album has a ▶ button: it plays the album's 30-second previews from Deezer, one track after another, and shows the track playing under the title. Press it again to stop; pressing another album stops the first. When Deezer doesn't have the album, the row says so — its page may still have videos.

Search finds artists and albums across all shelves. The results follow as you type; choosing one opens its shelf with the album marked. Emptying the search field takes you back to browsing.

💿 An album's page

Open an album from a search result, a shelf, or its artist's page. It shows:

  • where it stands, and what it is sorted under (cluster and era band)
  • its original release year — from Discogs, or confirmed by you
  • its format, Discogs styles and Discogs release
  • its width, estimated or measured
  • the location rules that apply to it, and a way to put it on another shelf

Listen

Under Listen you hear what an album sounds like before you pull it from the shelf. The app looks the album up at Deezer by its artist and title, and plays a 30-second preview of each track. The cover and title of what was found are shown, so you can see whether it is your album; if it is another one, Not this album leaves it out for good.

Below that are the videos Discogs users linked to your release — often whole tracks on YouTube. A video is only loaded when you press play.

Listening needs an internet connection; about three in four albums are found at Deezer, less often old compilations and rare pressings.

🎤 An artist's page

An artist's page has the artist's albums and where each one stands, the artists Discogs connects it to, and on the side the things that decide its place: start year (which sets the era band — with a link to look it up), cluster, location rules, and moving all its albums to another shelf at once. You can also add your own picture of the artist; it is kept with your data and never replaced by a sync.

On a wide screen the albums are on the left and the settings on the right; on a phone the settings come first.

📦 Albums without a place

Unplaced lists the LPs that stand on no shelf yet — new purchases, and albums a proposal had no room for. For each one the app suggests a spot in your shelves as they stand now: the shelf, the two albums it would go between, and whether it fits. Put it there places it; nothing else moves.

New purchases carry a New label and come first. The Dashboard shows the first three as well.

Singles and EPs

Only LPs are sorted. 7", 10" and 12" singles and EPs are imported and listed, but never given a spot — unless they already stand on a shelf.
